Caminos Al Futuro, the pre-college summer program that is part of the Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute at the George Washington University has announced their Summer 2018 dates. The three-week residential program that engages high-achieving juniors (rising seniors) in academic leadership development will take place July 1-20, 2018. Jacki and Gilbert Cisneros had long felt that Hispanic students need to ‘see themselves’ within the greater framework of selective universities as well as in positions of community leadership and chose to create the mentorship program in 2015 at the George Washington University, Gilbert’s alma mater. At the heart of the program is a cross-disciplinary course examining political, economic and social transformations impacting the Hispanic community, the College Success Series where the focus is on admissions strategies, experiential leadership programs involving academic discourse with policy makers in and around Washington, D.C., and, of course, social and recreational outings designed to foster a sense of community.
